Finland football national teams’ new jerseys

Artist and designer Klaus Haapaniemi has created the new jerseys for Finland’s football and futsal national teams.

Finnish identity will be proudly represented with the new design this summer at the Women’s EUROs and U21 European Championship, as well as in the Men’s national team’s World Cup Qualifiers. The new kits draw inspiration from Finnish national romanticism, nature, and the curved lines of Art Nouveau architecture.

"Stylish! I like that it stands out. It has its own style and story, which is great to carry onto the pitch. It’s amazing that they dared to do something this new and different."

Eveliina Summanen, midfielder for the Women’s National Team (Helmarit)

“I was into it right from the start! It’s cool that the shirt has something new and bold, yet still clearly Finnish. The detailed and original pattern adds depth and a sense of value. It’s something to wear with pride,”

Joel Pohjanpalo, striker for the Men’s National Team (Huuhkajat)

The unique and decorative pattern, filling the blue vertical stripe on the home jersey and covering the entire front of the away jersey, was fully hand-designed by Klaus Haapaniemi, including the typography used on the shirts. The colors remain familiar, while the visual style is both striking and calming.

“This was an extremely interesting and entirely new kind of project for me! I didn’t have to look far for inspiration – Finnish everyday life, nature, and architecture around me have always been present in my work. I wanted to create something that stands out from the usual look of sports jerseys – a handcrafted, slightly rugged, national romantic pattern that shows the human touch.”
